This Jacksonville Brewery has a great location, but suffers from an identity crises. They are trying to operate a 5 star restaurant and a brewery on the same great location. The restaurant did not seem worth of 5 Stars, but I am not a restaurant expert nor did I eat there. I ate at the bar! This seemed natural for a brewery fanatic. I was pleasantly suprised with the rare seasonal offering of a Kentucky Bourbon Ale. I was less impressed with the Jackson Pale Ale. My food was good, but not hot which was another knock.

Overall the Brewery has a great location, but lack any distinguising charachteristic beyond that. They seemed to sell a lot of Bud Light to local employee’s, and bring in crowds for dancing. I wasn’t impressed with the quality of their beers or the atmosphere, but was definetely worth the dinner visit.

Jackson Pale Ale

This River City offering was not one of their best. It seemed to lack any substansial flavor. Jackson had a very faint malt taste and no noticable hop flavor! The slight unexpected flavor seemed to resemble and Eask Kent Golding flavor. The beer had great color, head, and aestetics. It is probaby the first beer I have drank that looked good and tasted bad.

Kentucky Bourbon Ale

This is made by the River City Brewing Co. This is a rare seasonal offering that tastes like an old sailor liqour. It has an sweet rich taste that fits it’s amaretto color. There was almost no hop taste, but that isn’t suprising since it was aged with Kentucky Bourbon. There was a small light head that complimented the high carbonation. This beer had great color, texture, sweetness and body. The only real thing it lacked was a pleasant aroma when drinking. Kentucky Bourbon Ale is served in an 8 oz glass and has 12% ABV.
